Added Lessons

Today as I was practicing a new beading pattern I can't say I was really experiencing any groundbreaking life lessons, other than don't get your wires crossed.  I do have a few of my own life lessons to round out this week's entries...

1.    If there's something you don't want to do, that you can get away with not doing without harming anyone  -- than don't do it.

2.    Never feel you have to give in to someone else's desires for your life, choose your own desires and make them happen.

3.    Don't believe anyone who tells you that you don't have a job if you raise children - you hold and will always hold the bravest position of all time.

4.    Learn to recognize a narcissus and don't become a masochist trying to please them.

5.    Fear God, Trust God, and Pray without ceasing.

I'm sure we all have life lessons to share.  Lessons that can help others avoid pitfalls.  Lessons that are not only unique to us.  I'd love to hear them.

Lessons 37-45

The last day of the top 45 lessons that 90 year old Regina Brett has shared - plus my highlight.  Enjoy--

37.   Your children get only one childhood.
38.   All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39.   Get outside every day - Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40.   If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41.   Envy is a waste of time - You already have all you need.
42.   The best is yet to come.
43.   No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.
44.   Yield
45.   Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

I have reveled in the wise words and caring heart of this woman, and although I don't know her personally, would like to than her for her insight.  Take it as you like it.

Lessons 19-27

Hump day - midway through Ms. Brett's life lessons, once again with my particular highlighted pick.

19.   It's never too late to have a happy childhood, but the second on is up to you and no one else.
20.   When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21.   Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie - Don't save it for a special day - Today is special.
22.   Over prepare, and then go with the flow.
23.   Be eccentric now - Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24.   The most important sex organ is the brain.
25.   No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26.   Frame every so-called disaster with these words : In five years, will this matter?
27.   Always choose life.

Every day as I experience this 90 year old's life lessons, I appreciate her words of wisdom.

Lessons 10-18

Life lessons from 90 year old Regina Brett continue with my highlighted pick.

10.   Love your parents because they will be gone before you know it.
11.   Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12.   It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13.   Don't compare your life to others' - You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14.   If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15.   Everything can change in the blink of an eye - but don't worry, God never blinks.
16.   Take a deep breath - it calms the mind.
17.   Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18.   Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

Sometimes lessons are shrugged off or overlooked until you have to learn them again.

In case you're wondering what's up with L'AMORE INTIMO during this week of veering into words of wisdom - the pursuit of beading is on my plate, learning, perfecting, creating beauty that can be cherished.

Lessons 1-9

Regina Brett, a 90 year old from Cleveland, Ohio, to celebrate growing older, wrote 45 lessons life has taught her.  I will post 9 of these lessons each day this week and then add my own on Saturday.  I will highlight the lessons that stand out the most for me.

Join in with your comments and lessons.  We can all celebrate life by learning lessons from one another.

1.    Life isn't fair, but it's still good
2.    When in doubt, just take the next small step
3.    Life is too short to waste time hating anyone
4.    Don't take yourself so seriously - no one else does
5.    Pay off your credit cards every month
6.    You don't have to win every argument - agree to disagree
7.    Cry with someone - it's more healing than crying alone
8.    It's OK to get angry with God - He can take it
9.    Save for retirement, starting with your first paycheck

Thank you to Ms. Brett for the words of wisdom, may all who reads them, learn a lesson that they might need.  Ms. Brett's lessons are circulating in an email sent to me on January 26, 2009.

To Be Or Not To Be

Secure that is.  I wasn't sure what I would write about today, but after reading an email from my Madre I have to copy and paste this for your information --

**The main difference between http:// and https:// is it's all about keeping you secure**

HTTP stands for hypertext Transport Protocol, which is just a fancy way of saying it's a protocol (a language, in a manner of speaking) for information to be passed back and forth between web servers and clients.  The important thing is the letter S, which makes the difference between HTTP and HTTPS.

The S (big surprise) stands for "SECURE".  If you visit a website or webpage, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following http://.  This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular unsecured language.  in other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website.  If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.  his is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website!

But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website i\n a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

You understand why this is so important, right?
If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://.  If it doesn't, there's no way you're going to enter sensitive information like a credit card number.

I personally have not checked out the originator of this email but I believe it to contain very valuable information.  With the state of the economy and all of the scams out there - word to the wise - be careful little hands what you do.  I will look further into this information and be sure to make ordering anything from L'AMORE INTIMO a very secure on-line process.  That's my promise.

Over Compensation

That's what happened today in my sewing -- I overcompensated for a cutting and measuring mistake.  Here's what I learned from that lesson, if you don't like how something is turning out - pitch it in the garbage or use it for scrap, but move on because there's not much fabric in lingerie to begin with, so unless you're making string bikinis with only the string, it's best to start over, and not waste stitches.  Next time things should go better.

A Day Off to Celebrate

Although you never really have a day off when you have your own business, because you can find inspiration anywhere, any time - today I  had a day off and did enjoy the Presidential Inauguration of Mr. Barack Obama.  At last look he and his (our) First Lady Michelle Obama were enjoying their 7th ball of the evening.  The designer of her dress called into CNN and spoke of how he had found out this evening that she had chosen to wear his design.  Way Cool!

It's a great day!

Beads 50% Off

Today "Michael's" had beads on sale.  I got lots for under $22!

Be careful new beaders, there are bunches of bead shops that are over-priced.  The 1/2 off sale at a reputable craft store was worth saving the price of gas it would have cost to shop downtown in the garment district.  Still in the long run, it pays to take a good half a day or even a full day, to go walk the 3 to 4 blocks of fabric, and supply, and bead shops that consume those streets.

Threading that Serger Sucks

It really needs to be a better way to thread a serger overlock machine.  If you don't thread it exactly right, the machine won't work properly.  The trade off for sometimes a half hour in threading and re-threading and correcting what you just did, and starting over, snipping thread and those dog-gone tweezers -- the trade off is a beautifully professional finish, an effortless rolled hem, and quality hand made little nothings that will be worth the non-returnable purchase.  Cool.

Now if I only had a machine that did embroidery.

BEHIND the Design

I came up with that title all by myself!  It's okay to send email about that one, pun.

First let me BRIEF you on the passion that surrounds L'AMORE INTIMO.  The idea BEHIND my company came out of being loved.  My original idea for the company name was Breathe - the essence of Life, Living and Loving.  After months of going back and forth and stubbornly holding on to this name over others suggested, I was told what l'amore means.  L'Amore goes beyond the casual, it's the opposite of non-committal -- L'Amore is the essence of Loving, Living, and Life (different/better/more defined).  When I understood this in my thinking of what I want to represent as a sensual apparel designer I knew I had to DBA L'AMORE INTIMO.

I have posted sample designs on this blog, and will change up and add more over time.  Tell me what you think, and encourage your family and friends to take a look too.  "Not your granny's panties!"  It just may be exciting to say one day that you were on the ground level of this wonderful venture.

Mani-Pedi-Wax

Can you say high time for my time?  Maybe one of the perks of owning a business where you are marketing beauty -- you gotta stay beautiful yourself.  So today Designer and President of L'AMORE INTIMO ventured out to fav nail salon with bead magazine in hand, and got a wonderful manicure/pedicure in a massage chair, plus the infamous wax.  Perhaps not tabloid  or ET news worthy, but it was cool.  The airbrushed design on the toes is a must.

No worries to my investors -- lots of business planning went on during the pampering.  Inspiration can be found just about anywhere.

or should that be Dream Sweet?

SOAP and FABRIC

This morning was spent researching (thank you God for the internet and google) how to make washing detergents.  Thinking that maybe L'AMORE INTIMO needs it's own mild soap to use for the delicate hand washings.  It was very interesting and seems to be a lot of trial and error when it comes to making detergents.  Maybe it would be better not to manufacture my own but to choose a gentle detergent to put my label on, or even recommend a detergent.  Ideas?

This afternoon was spent brainstorming design ideas.  I need a day in a huge fabric mart or just downtown in the garment district.  I'm looking for fabric that's delicate but durable, and speaks L'AMORE.  So you'll know, I'm in the market for stretch lace, nylon, chiffon, linen, spandex, and all other fabrics for sensual lingerie.

The day was productive.
